Peptide-Based Strategies Against SARS-CoV-2 Attack: An Updated In Silico Perspective

Because of its scale and suddenness, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has created an unprecedented challenge in terms drug development. Apart from being natural candidates for vaccine design, peptides are a class compounds well suited to target protein-protein interactions, peptide development benefits progress silico protocols that have emerged within last decade. Here, we review different strategies been considered drugs against SARS-CoV-2. Thanks experimental structure determination, structural information rapidly become available most proteins encoded by virus, easing analyses develop or vaccines. The repurposing antiviral/antibacterial not successful so far. promising results, but only ones, obtained targeting interaction between spike protein Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2, which triggers cellular infection virus replication. Within months, structure-based design identified competing picomolar interaction, proving interactions is maturing. Although no specifically designed yet reached market, lessons suggest now plausible alternative small compounds.
